Meet entrepreneur Monalisa, a small town girl from a place of West Bengal known as ‘Salkia’. She was exposed to the potential of business from a very young age at the cubits of ‘Gaddi of Howrah hatt’. Almost fascinated by the charm of being ‘your own boss’ it drove her expedite her own venture at a very early age. She tried her hands on many businesses before she found her tr ye love for apparels. She worked hard, tried doing some odd jobs, whatever was at her disposal, from the age of 16 , arrange for the initial capital that she needed for her baby venture. Alone in this journey she started saving her earnings, she believed in the concept of ” A penny saved is a penny earned” .And that is how she started her entrepreneurial journey, without any formal education in fashion industry, she entered into the world of fashion, with dreams in her eyes and hardwork as her best friend.
She first started with a retail market that is a popular one in the hearts of kolkata. She started with baby steps with a Salon at the same time at her native place ‘Howrah’. She knew too well that any obstacle was just another challenge for her that she took up gladly.
She was a self built empowered woman who wanted to empower others like her and that is she started her own clothing brand ‘ MD Fabrics’.
‘MD fabrics’ led it’s own journey as a new venture but Monalisa had her priorities right. She knew failure is the roadway to success. She had her godfather C. S Tiwari and his wife Mandhavati devi who had their trust in her dreams and supported her to make it a reality. She started her venture with third party vendors, by now she had a good grip of the marketplace and she was successful in making some trust worthy contacts that helped her shine through. She imported her fabrics from Gujrat, Surat, Ahmedabad and created a grid of supply chain.
She started with having nothing at hand and her designs, her collections were already talk of the town. But fate had something waiting for her. 2020 came with unprecedented situations to us all and businesses faced a major slowdown. The economy was drowning and the apparel business was hung up. She knew it was a difficult phase, but since when has time not changed for good?
She took to online platforms and started with a decent customer base. Her physical store at Dum dum was closed now but social media helped her regain the confidence I’m her business. Her sales went high after the second lock down with the flow of revival of the economy at large.
Today MD fabrics stand as a 17 year old, legacy that Monalisa created with her industrious dedication. She is a passionate woman who thrives for perfection in all her ventures. She is here to provide you the bestest of quality apparels at the most affordable range.
